Located in two beautifully converted machiya (traditional Japanese wooden townhouses) Satoyama Stay is the newest addition to the Satoyama Experience organization who are based out of and promote the culture of Hida Furukawa. Offering a harmonious balance of contemporary design with traditional tatami rooms and utilizing the arts and crafts, and craftsmanship of the local area, Satoyama Stay is a hub and meeting point for local townspeople and visitors to congregate and share their experiences and stories. Designed by a local architect and handcrafted by young, local carpenters, the two residences are the shining lights of a local movement to promote Hida Furukawa as a focal point of community, artisanship and culture.
