Kamioka Community Springs

神岡の共同水屋

Kamioka is a town abundant with clear spring water thanks to nearby mountains, such as Mt. Obora and Mt. Nijugo. Before the municipal water supply system was established, the residents came together to draw water from mountain streams and springs, distributing the water to each household for use. Because of this, even today, some homes have two faucets: one for mountain stream water and one for the city's tap water. Community springs were established for shared use and are still used today for washing and cooling vegetables. These springs are seen as important meeting spots and are collectively maintained by the community. You can find these community springs scattered throughout the town so why not enjoy searching for them all?
