Hineno Art Museum & Café is a true cultural experience and is conveniently located a short 5 minute walk from Hida-Furukawa Station. The museum is located in a traditional wooden townhouse, and transports visitors to past times with its shoin style architecture. The expertly crafted woodwork, tatami floors, and lattice doors and windows create a visually immersive experience. The museum displays Japanese paintings, ceramics, and makie lacquerware from the 16th through 20th centuries. Outside, is a Japanese style garden landscaped with trees, azaleas, and stone lanterns and paths, composing a perfect picture of zen.
On the first floor of the museum is a cafe where guests can enjoy stunning views of the gardens as they sip tea on the tatami floors. The simple menu includes matcha, black tea, and coffee, as well as sweets. The cafe also has a lunch option featuring Hida beef, which requires a reservation two days prior. Though without a doubt, the cafe’s greatest lure is its cheesecake. This 50 year old recipe focuses on simple, yet quality ingredients and is baked by hand. To elevate the dining experience, the cafe serves all of its menu items on intricately designed dishes that match the traditional Japanese vibes.
